During the first two days of the Dragon Boat Festival holiday on June 8 and 9, the key commercial circulation enterprises tracked by the Department of Commerce in Jiangsu Province achieved cumulative sales of about 2.4 billion yuan, marking an increase of 6.4% year-on-year.

This robust growth was fueled by various activities organized to celebrate the traditional festival and stimulate consumer spending. For example, Nanjing kicked off its international summer consumption festival, which includes shopping, food, tour, entertainment and other sectors. Wuxi City continued its 2024 Taihu Lake Shopping Festival to support the recovery of consumption and stimulate new consumption scenarios. In celebration of the festival, Suzhou also launched its summer shopping campaign designed to attract tourists from nearby cities and other regions. Additionally, the city issued incentives for shopping during the festival in the form of digital yuan.

During the holiday, Jiangsu also promoted the trade-in of large consumer goods, such as automobiles and home appliances, offering consumers a wealth of choices and service deals. For example, vehicle sales during the holiday achieved a year-on-year growth of 46% in Nantong City.

Throughout the holiday, cities across Jiangsu organized a wide range of cultural and artistic performances, such as folk custom shows, immersive exhibitions, markets featuring distinctive China-chic products.

Changzhou’s Dragon Boat Festival celebrations featured typical food, local specialities, and flowers. In Yancheng, the dragon boat competition attracted more than 800 participants from 36 teams nationwide, as well as tourists, creating an exciting event. Yangzhou organized tours to explore the traditional celebrations of the festival and also honored senior high school students taking the national college entrance exams. In Taizhou, visitors had options related to making lacquer fan, participating in archery, and joining a parade while waring hanfu, the traditional clothing of the Han ethnic group.
