This year's August 15 marks the 78th anniversary of Japan's unconditional surrender in World War II (WWII).
Eleven survivors of the Nanjing Massacre have passed away this year, according to the Memorial Hall of the Victims in Nanjing Massacre by Japanese Invaders. Their deaths have reduced the total number of registered survivors to 39.
