Jiangsu's retail sales of consumer goods in the first five months surged by 11.4% year on year to over 1.89 trillion yuan, accounting for 10.1% of the country's total and ranking second, according to data from the province's Department of Statistics.
These achievements came after cities coordinated to launch online and offline shopping campaigns.
For example, in Nanjing, about 8,000 enterprises participated in the campaign. Wuxi organized the "Taihu Lake Shopping Festival" while providing a subsidy of 40 million yuan to stimulate consumption. Xuzhou hosted 100 key promotional activities. Nantong issued vouchers worth 20 million yuan for spendings on home appliances and decorations, and two million yuan for catering and supermarket expenses.
Besides, Lianyungang launched over 200 promotion activities. Huai'an issued vouchers worth 7 million yuan to boost spending in supermarkets, catering, home appliances and automobiles. Suqian issued digital yuan vouchers totaling 10 million yuan to support spending too.
Other measures included camping festivals, the 19th Yangtze River Finless Porpoise Festival, and auto shows held in cities including Yangzhou, Zhenjiang and Taizhou.
