The aging population in China is growing, as people born in 1960s, the second wave of “baby boom” after the founding of PRC, are coming to the age of retirement.
Rather than being isolated from the society, many retired seniors are enjoying their retirement thanks to information technologies and the nation’s various efforts to helps the senior citizens remain mentally active.
There are large groups of active senior users who constantly create contents on mainstream Chinese social media, including Douyin, Xiaohongshu, and etc..

In east China’s Jiangsu province, over 2,000 “pocket parks” and over 300 senior universities are offering more possibilities and available choices for the elderlies to acquire knowledge, achieve self-esteem and gain happiness.
The rich and diversified volunteer services in various cities have also built a platform for the seniors to seek for accomplishment. For example, by the end of 2022, a total of 349 museums in Jiangsu are offering cultural volunteer programs provided by elderly volunteers.
