National lawmakers and political advisors are gathering in Beijing for the annual two sessions, the first session of the 14th National People's Congress (NPC) and the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC). Among them, female participants from all walks of life continued to attend the sessions on International Women's Day, March 8.
Shao Danwei, president of Wanbang Digital Energy Co Ltd, also member of the CPPCC National Committee, has been busy with the schedules, such as deliberating the Work Report of the CPPCC Standing Committee, the report on the work of proposals, and the Government Work Report.
Shao said she has been deeply impressed by the words of President Xi Jinping when he participated in a joint group meeting with national political advisers from the China National Democratic Construction Association and the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce on the afternoon of March 6.
"President Xi began by saying happy Women's Day to the female NPC deputies and CPPCC National Committee members," said Shao.
"As a new energy enterprise, there are great development opportunities ahead and we will continue to contribute our wisdom and strength to optimize China's energy structure, and also help achieve the 'dual carbon' goals," she added.
NPC deputy Wei Qiao, also director of Yongxing Agricultural Mechanization Cooperative in Zhenjiang City, said the cooperative manages about 1,300 hectares of rice with a yield of 550 kilograms per hectare and also supports farmers in the surrounding area to get rich.
Wei has a master's degree in soil sciences and her husband has a doctorate in agronomy. They quit their jobs at the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Beijing University respectively in April 2017 to work in the countryside.
Wei hopes more young people can work in agriculture, a great industry with promising opportunities. She has suggested to provide support for the new generation of farmers and pilot programs that integrate agricultural technology and education.
He Guanghua, NPC deputy and also director of cable operations at State Grid's Wuxi Branch, has been committed to the cable installation and maintenance for more than 20 years. From an ordinary worker, she has become an expert who enjoys special allowance of the State Council. Participating in the NPC session for first time, she has brought three proposals, two of which focused on green low-carbon electricity and one on the commercialization of innovative achievements.
Wang Yuan, dean of the College of Water Resources and Hydropower at Hohai University, is a member of the CPPCC National Committee and belongs to the newly added participating group of environment and resources. Her proposal focuses on the construction of environmental infrastructure.
Noting that China seeks modernization that promotes harmonious coexistence of man and nature, Wang said the new participating group consists of officials from government departments, experts and scholars in the field of natural resources, managers of energy enterprises, and animal and plant protection specialists. "We share the same goal to provide more scientific solutions to environmental problems," she said.
Gao Huarui, human resources manager at Nanjing KYJ Housekeeping Co Ltd, said people often say that women can hold up half the sky, and this is especially true in the domestic industry. The company currently has nearly 3,000 employees, of which more than 85% are women. Gao as a deputy to the NPC has put forward a suggestion to provide social insurance subsidy for those working in the home service sector and also enhance the sector's quality growth and expansion.
NPC deputy Chen Cheng, vice-chairwoman of the Jiangsu Provincial Theatre Association, has prepared suggestions on promoting rural revitalization with cultural endeavors, supporting the development of opera art, among others.
