As the Spring Festival approaches, overseas Chinese in Greece have held a gala to celebrate the Lunar New Year, to which producer Wang Peng has been busy for two months to ensure its success. Wang, editor-in-chief of China Greece Times, always sees it his mission to tell China’s long history and splendid culture to the world and spread China’s voice.

"The Greeks still know very little about China, and the local Chinese community also wants to learn about the development and progress of the motherland from the press, so our integrated media platform will provide more opportunities for people to understand China," Wang said.

Since the launch on January 1, 2005, the Chinese language newspaper grew from 24 pages at the beginning to 60 pages at the most in nearly ten years, with the circulation once reaching Cyprus and Bulgaria. In September 2015, the newspaper added 8 pages in Greek to cover news in China and made their reports objective and comprehensive. The Greek edition has become a window for local dignitaries to understand China.

After years of development, the newspaper in two languages has become a bridge for friendship, solidarity and cooperation between Greece and China, two great ancient civilizations, and this bridge is also getting wider and stronger. Telling the Chinese story in Greek and spreading the Chinese voice, the publication has spared no effort to enhance China's role in international discourse and also contributed to the Belt and Road Initiative and the development of China.

Wang said he feels glad for the economic and social development of Jiangsu over the years, especially the improvement of the ecological environment, a field that he has paid close attention to. The province’s cities become greener and more livable. For example, people can frequently find Yangtze finless porpoises jumping over the river in Nanjing, and the Dafeng Milu National Nature Reserve is home to a vibrant ecosystem that consists of forest, grass, water, milu deer and birds. Such achievements reflect the progress of building an ecological civilization in Jiangsu, an endeavor also worth of telling the world according to Wang.

Wang has always kept in mind his original intention of working in the news media. “In recent years, the world has seen China’s steady development, determination to adhere to reform and opening up, and commitment to the international community. I will continue to support the development of my hometown of Jiangsu, and further promote Jiangsu and Greece to carry out cooperation and exchange in many fields," he added.
