The National Health Commission required localities to distribute health kits for the elderly, patients with underlying conditions, those at high risk of serious illnesses from COVID-19 and children in difficulty, according to a circular issued on January 3. The package should include antipyretics, cough and cold medicines, antigen-detection reagents, masks and disinfectant.
On the morning of the next day, a 70-year-old woman who lives alone in Hangou District of Yangzhou City received the medical kit with items including a leaflet and a thermometer, delivered to home by community workers.
Xie Jian, Party chief of Hangou Community, said 33 such packages have been provided to those who live alone and people with serious disabilities.
Yangzijin subdistrict in Yangzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone has also distributed nearly 200 health kits to vulnerable people. Jiang Meiyun, Party chief of Jinfeng Community in the subdistrict, said team of social workers, family doctors, volunteers and police officers is committed to meeting the needs of the people around the clock.
Up to now, Yangzhou has distributed more than 60,000 health kits to improve the COVID-19 treatment.
