Yangzhou City has opened temporary clinics at community pharmacies to help the public better respond to surging COVID-19 infections.
Liu Wanjun, director of the Department of General Practitioner at Northern Jiangsu People's Hospital, went to work at Baiyulan Pharmacy close to Wenchang Pavilion, a famous tourist attraction in the city. Liu received more than 10 people on December 22 and provided them with diagnosis and prescription services.
In the pilot program, the city opened such services first in 15 pharmacies in downtown area, including three served by doctors from Northern Jiangsu People's Hospital.
To broaden the access to medical services, health authorities in Yangzhou worked with retail pharmacy chains to start the program, part of efforts to guide rational purchase and correct use of fever medicines and also reduce strain on hospitals.
In the program, hospitals also cooperate with pharmacies to open a green channel for referral, so that patients who need further treatment will be transferred to hospitals in a timely manner.
