In last September, Jiangsu sent its 16th medical assistance teams to the two countries in line with the national arrangement. The 16 members sent to Guyana are all from Suzhou’s hospitals including the Suzhou Municipal Hospital, Kunshan Hospital of TCM and the Second People’s Hospital in Changshu. Three of the six members sent to Malta are also from the city.

Qiao Zhiming, head of the team to Guyana, said he has vivid memories of three important moments in the service - to save a premature baby born at six months, to perform cataract surgery on an old man who lived alone and was deaf, and to rescue a nine-year-old girl who was bitten by a snake and also prevent amputation.

The 16th medical aid team to Malta also overcame various difficulties and treated more than 7,000 patients. The team’s head Jiang Yawen said the team made weekly report and analysis of COVID-19 cases, introduced TCM measures to fight the pandemic, and also promoted healthy lifestyles for the community. The team also held two medical workshops to help over 500 overseas Chinese.

Since 1966, Suzhou has sent 115 professionals in 23 batches to support medical and healthcare services in foreign countries.
