Yao Juan wins gold medal in discus throw at Tokyo Paralympics

Yao Juan, a native of Wuxi City in Jiangsu Province, won the gold medal in the women's F64 class discus throw final at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games on August 29.

Yao snatched the gold with a 44.73-meter mark and broke her own world record of 44.54 meters at the Rio 2016 Paralympics. This is also the 32nd Paralympics gold that Team China has won in Tokyo.

Yao, 37, has participated the Paralympic Games for six times, winning five golds.

She suffered from disability in left lower limb at the age of four due to polio. But she has always been interested in sports and competed in many school or regional student games.

Yao said she feels lucky to have received the generous support and care from many sides for more than 20 years including the higher education and a stable job.
