Jiangsu's forest coverage rate to reach 24.1% by 2025

Jiangsu Province has released the blueprint for forestry development during the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025).

The plan will focus on six major initiatives including protection of forestry resources, construction of ecological barrier and quality improvement. Jiangsu will go all out to expand the "forestry chief" system that consists of guardians at five levels - provincial, municipal, county, township and village.

By 2025, the province aims to increase the forest coverage rate to 24.1%, afforest 133,300 hectares of land, and raise its forest stock volume to 56 cubic meters per hectare.

Nature reserve will account for 8% of the province's land area, 60% of natural wetlands and 98% of old and famous trees will be placed under protection, and the annual output value of forestry is estimated to reach 510 billion yuan.
