In a video conference on June 23, Zhenjiang City in Jiangsu Province signed a memorandum of understanding with Hongseong, a county in South Korea’s western coast, to establish the Friendship City relationship.

Hongseong, also the capital of South Chungcheong Province, covers an area of 443.9 square kilometres with a population of over 100,000. The county has convenient transportation and well-developed industries, agriculture and livestock breeding sectors. The major industries include electrical and automation equipment, cosmetics, food and beverages, auto parts, artificial intelligence and elevators.

Since November 2018, the two areas have maintained close exchange and formed a deep friendship in joining efforts to fight the coronavirus pandemic.

Zhenjiang has attracted a total investment of $300 million from South Korea. In 2019, the city’s foreign trade with South Korea reached $700 million.
