Mitomo Toshimoto receives protective supplies donated by Wuxi.

In a letter sent on March 18, Mitomo Toshimoto, executive vice president at Sony Corp and the Sony Group China Representative expressed gratitude to the Commerce Bureau of Wuxi National High-tech District (Xinwu District) for donating 5,000 masks, saying the supply helps the headquarters combat the COVID-19 outbreak.

Wuxi has made efforts to ensure prevention and control of COVID-19 and also promote social and economic development. Meanwhile, it has offered support to sister cities including Sagamihara in Japan and Gimhae, Ulsan, Icheon, and Cheongju in South Korea.

On the afternoon of March 16, the city began transporting 60,000 medical masks and 1,500 sets of medical protective clothing to Sagamihara, Gimhae and Ulsan.

Through close contact with manufacturers, Wuxi National High-tech District helped collect 250,000 masks in just two days for 35 companies invested by 13 countries including Japan, South Korea and Italy. The masks were then sent by these companies to overseas headquarters.

An official at the district’s Commerce Bureau said they will keep an eye on the global pandemic situation, and continue to organize donations to the parent companies of foreign-funded enterprises and international sister cities.
