A JSQ freight vehicle loaded with 208 cars manufactured by SAIC Maxus Automotive Co Ltd arrived at Taicang Port on August 31, from where they will be transported to the Shanghai Haitong International Automotive Terminal for export to Mexico.
This first shipment via the Taicang Express Line, a railway specially for cargo transport, represents a milestone for the port’s development. The service will help domestic automakers explore international markets through the rail-sea multimodal transport, a method that offers efficiency, convenience and safety advantages over other logistics options.
Although China's automobile exports are on the rise, limitations such as vehicle transport capacity and high cost have presented challenges. In response, Suzhou Port has cooperated with logistics providers to tailor services that meet the diverse needs of vehicle exporters.
The JSQ freight vehicle features double-decker racks that can carry more cars than conventional boxcars. The wagons can be connected seamlessly to form an extended container, improving the efficiency of vehicle loading and unloading while reducing manpower costs. This specialized train is also equipped with multiple protection measures, making it an ideal transport solution for vehicles. Suzhou Port plans to continue to leverage its advantages in terms of the port and dedicated freight rail line to provide comprehensive vehicle transport solutions.
According to Shao Jianlin, Director of Taicang Port Management Committee, the express rail line has been operational for 610 days since its opening on December 29, 2021. Its service network now encompasses 66 freight terminals across 16 provinces. Over the years, the line has handled 700 train trips with 62,000 TEUs, becoming a crucial rail freight hub in Yangtze River Delta region. From January to July this year alone, Taicang Port handled 292,600 vehicles, including 200,000 units for export, a year-on-year increase of 560%.
