On 19 January, delegations at the third session of the 14th Jiangsu Provincial People's Congress held plenary meetings to deliberate the provincial government's work report and review the development plan, budget report and related drafts.
Delegates agreed that the government work report fully highlights that Jiangsu, a major economic province, has undertaken significant responsibilities in major tasks. The province made solid efforts to improve people's livelihoods and promote reform and innovation-driven growth, effectively advancing its high-quality development and laying a solid foundation for future achievements.
The government work report revealed that Jiangsu experienced an extraordinary year in terms of economic and social development. The province's GDP reached 13.7 trillion yuan, marking an increase of 5.8% and the largest increase in the country, while the region's innovation capability has jumped to second nationwide.
Wu Xinming, secretary of the CPC Nantong Committee, said the report summarizes the province’s accomplishments and sets forth targeted and pragmatic tasks, all while maintaining a people-centred approach.
Feng Chunqing, deputy director of the provincial Department of Human Resources and Social Security, stated that the report has emphasized science and technology, talent and innovation, and proposed major tasks and measures in these areas. "Our department will be committed to providing talent support for Jiangsu to lead in high-quality development, such as deepening the reform of the talent system and enhancing efforts to attract and cultivate talent with a better environment."
Zhou Zhongyang, Party chief of Ercheng Village in Danyang City, praised the report’s focus on grassroots governance and people's livelihoods, which is also central to the work of village-level organizations and rural revitalization.
