An art troupe of Gunlianxiang, a popular folk dance from Jiangyan District of Taizhou City, was recently invited by the Khabarovsk State Institute of Arts and Culture to perform in a dance festival.
The folk dance, dating back over 200 years, features a strong regional charm. It was designated an intangible cultural heritage in Jiangsu in 2009. The performance, accompanied by Russian music, was welcomed by residents in the city.
Zhang Jinjun, the sixth-generation inheritor of Gunlianwu, said his son Zhang Pengfan led seven classmates in the major of ballet to visit Jiangyan in the summer of 2023 to learn about the folk dance. During the Spring Festival this year, the student group performed at the institute and received high praises. As a result, the institute invited the art troupe to perform in a local dance festival.
