In 2023, Jiangsu Province registered total box office earnings of 5.168 billion yuan and 124 million moviegoers, respectively, accounting for 9.41% and 9.6% of the national totals.

Jiangsu’s film industry produced 15 movies in various genres, including myths, sports, action and history, with the revenue amounting to 9.83% of the national total.

According to Maoyan, a film ticketing agency and distribution company, most of the new cinemas added in 2023 were in third- and fourth-tier cities. Last year, Jiangsu built 80 new cinemas, including 23 in the province’s townships. By the end of December 2023, the province boasted 1,232 cinemas with 7,738 screens.

An analysis of the moviegoers reveals a younger audience with a preference for new content and themes. Male viewers primarily gravitated towards imported action movies, while female viewers often chose films related to children or women's issues.
