The Oriental Metropolitan Museum of Nanjing opened the exhibition The Gifts of The Gods: Apulia Felix Among Greeks, Indigenous and Romans on July 26.
Co-hosted by the Nanjing Museum Administration, Art Exhibitions China and Government of Apulia Region of Italy, the exhibition brings together collections from eight government museums in the European country.
Puglia, located in southern Italy, boasts approximately 800 km of coastline of unique natural beauty.
The three-part exhibition features six gods and goddesses from ancient Greek mythology - Poseidon, Demeter, Athena, Dionysus, Apollo and Heracles - as the story line. It presents the art, culture, commerce, agriculture and other aspects in the region through exquisite artifacts such as pottery, sculptures and coins, said Zhang Lei, director of the museum's business department.
The first part showcases the craftsmanship and spiritual life of the people in Puglia during the 800 years from the 6th century B.C. to the 2nd century A.D.
The second part is a digital and immersive art show featuring photographer and visual artist Alessia Rollo, offering an opportunity to understand the cultural traditions of the Adriatic Sea area.
In the third part, visitors can appreciate 30 works by Italian photographers covering various topics such as Puglia's natural scenery and cultural heritage.
