Jiangsu's box office during the 3-day New Year holiday reached 44.5 million yuan, second highest in provincial-level regions and about 8.4% of the country's total, according to Jiangsu Film Administration.
Jiangsu had 1.05 million moviegoers during the holiday and Avatar: The Way of Water grossed 22.53 million yuan.
Among the province's 13 cities that have subordinate districts, Suzhou, Nanjing and Wuxi took the top three spots in terms of box office. In northern Jiangsu, Xuzhou stood out with a box office ranking fifth.
