Xuyi County launched its 23rd International Crayfish Festival on June 12 and will present 24 events in four categories until August 22, including the 10,000-people crayfish banquets and traditional wedding ceremonies.
After 23 years of consistent efforts, Xuyi’s crayfish has become a renowned geographic brand with a market value of 35.312 billion yuan. It holds the top position among China’s regional brands in the category of aquatic geographical indication products.
With a population of 800,000 people, Xuyi boasts 210,000 individuals engaged in the crayfish industry. This festival has also evolved into a key platform to promote economic and trade development, investment, tourism and culture, an event that firmly places the county on the map.
In this year's festival, Xuyi aims to enhance public services through multiple measures. For example, detailed maps outlining parking lots, public toilets and night market stalls have been provided online. Local police will adopt a lenient approach towards minor traffic violations, prioritizing warning rather than fines. The county’s Market Supervision Administration has urged hotels not to jack up prices. In addition, thousands of volunteers will provide diverse services, such as free guidance and explanations, reminders to protect the environment, and maintaining order and sanitation standards throughout the festival.
