The site is rich in flora and fauna, with 316 species of vascular plants, 69 species of fish and 210 species of birds, including four and 32 bird species under national Class I and Class II protection, respectively.
In recent years, a series of measures have been taken to enhance science-based restoration, biodiversity conservation, and water volume and quality at Baima Lake. Efforts have also been made to build a science museum, explore the local cultural heritage, and highlight the area's unique wetland landscape amid the development of ecotourism and sustainable growth.
