The freight train service between Moscow and Haian City in Jiangsu Province reached a milestone on March 24, as the city welcomed the first returned train carrying imports.
Departing from Russia on March 9, the train transported 90 containers of crude sunflower oil totaling 1,800 tonnes for the province’s Goldland Group.
Haian, a manufacturing hub, and its neighboring areas require raw materials for the production of equipment, textiles, food and chemicals. These materials can be supplied by exporters from Russia and Central Asia. The freight train service is set to benefit local businesses by reducing logistics costs and shortening transportation time. It is planned to have 2-3 regular trips per month.

Situated in the Haian Trade and Logistics Industrial Park, the railway logistics base serves as a crucial platform for Jiangsu’s international freight train operations and fosters cross-border trade.
The base’s general manager Wang Weiguo said that a freight train returning from Kazakhstan completed customs clearance at Alashankou Port in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on March 24 and is currently en route to Haian. A plan is also underway for a cargo train service to transport fruits from Vientiane, Laos to Haian. The base aims to conduct a total of 40 freight train trips over the course of the year.
