Jiangsu has rolled out an action plan to peak carbon dioxide emissions in industries and key areas in line with the country's "dual carbon" goals.
The plan was jointly introduced by the province's Department of Industry and Information Technology, Development and Reform Commission, and Department of Ecology and Environment.
By 2025, the province's energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions per unit of industrial value-added will drop by 17% and 20% compared to 2020 respectively. Jiangsu plans to peak carbon dioxide emissions in industries by 2030, with progress made first in sectors of iron and steel, petrochemicals, building materials, textiles and paper.
Among the measures, Jiangsu will strictly prohibit new capacity for iron and steel, rigorously control new capacity for nitrogen and phosphate fertilizers, and strengthen the development of special cements and low-carbon concrete products, to name a few.
To turn the action plan into reality, Jiangsu will advance the certification of energy management system, actively carry out third-party certification evaluation, improve the trading markets for carbon emission and energy-consuming rights, and push forward the green public procurement system.
