Jiangsu’s foreign trade in four months up 22.5%

East China’s Jiangsu Province, an economic powerhouse, reported a foreign trade of over 1.548 trillion yuan in the first four months, up 22.5% year-on-year and 16.9% over the same period in 2019, according to the Nanjing Customs on May 11. Exports totaled 957.75 billion yuan, up 27.5%, and imports increased by 15.1% to reach 590.81 billion yuan.

During the period, Jiangsu’s general trade hit 862.67 billion yuan, up 28.4% and 55.7% of the total. Processing and bonded logistics sectors reported foreign trade of 500.42 billion yuan and 168.24 billion yuan, up 5.9% and 60.8% respectively.

Jiangsu saw a steady growth of imports and exports with its major trading partners. From January to April, trade with the European Union, ASEAN, the United States, South Korea and Japan amounted to 235.31 billion yuan, 223.12 billion yuan, 207.49 billion yuan, 161.03 billion yuan and 140.82 billion yuan respectively, up 26%, 25.2%, 29.1%, 11.8% and 13.8%.

Meanwhile, the province’s imports and exports with countries along the Belt and Road initiative totaled 393.38 billion yuan, an increase of 24.3%.
