EU overtakes US as Jiangsu’s biggest trade partner

Jiangsu’s foreign trade reached about 4.338 trillion yuan in 2019, with EU taking over the US as the province’s biggest trade partner, according to a meeting of Nanjing Customs on January 19.

Jiangsu’s imports and exports with EU and the US hit 731.6 billion yuan and 625.2 billion yuan, up 4.4 percent and down 11.9 percent, respectively. Amid the province’s efforts to optimize global trade landscape, it reported imports and exports with 49 partners crossing the 10 billion yuan threshold.

Jiangsu’s foreign trade with countries along the Belt and Road initiative totaled over 1.064 trillion yuan, a year-on-year growth of 9.4 percent. Meanwhile, trade with Africa jumped 12.9 percent to reach 98.23 billion yuan.
