Jiangsu recorded 57,412 technology contracts in 2020 with a turnover of 233.58 billion yuan, ranking third in China, according to the Torch High Technology Industry Development Center, Ministry of Science and Technology.
It included about 68.7 billion yuan from Nanjing, 49.3 billion yuan from Suzhou and 29.4 billion yuan from Wuxi, accounting for 29.40%, 21.12% and 12.59% of the total respectively. Together the three top cities contributed to 63.11% of the turnover in the province.
The progress was made partly because of Jiangsu’s efforts to give full play to the role of the technology property rights trading market, a growing number of brokers and managers, and support policy for the technology transfer and commercialization.
The turnover of contracts for technology development and service accounted for more than 80% of the total, at about 194.6 billion yuan, up 40.79% year-on-year. The turnover of agreements involving intellectual property rights hit 119.4 billion yuan, accounting for 51.13% of the total, up 50.08% year-on-year. The turnover involving patents increased by 59.8% year-on-year to reach about 60.6 billion yuan.
The three largest areas in terms of turnover were 63.3 billion yuan in advanced manufacturing, 55.5 billion yuan in electronic information and 31.5 billion yuan in biomedicine, accounting for 27.1%, 23.78% and 13.49% of the total, respectively.
