On June 15, Taizhou Department of Ecology and Environment opened a management center that will supervise the environmental protection of the Yangtze River.
The 24-hour center with an office space of 5,000 square meters has various function areas, such as a lab and an emergency equipment room. It is also equipped with drones, unmanned boats and special vehicles to ensure a comprehensive monitoring of the river’s water quality.
Previously, a big data platform about the river’s cleanup campaign went live on October 12, 2019. The platform has gathered more than 100 million pieces of data from 18 departments including housing and construction, transportation and maritime affairs. It has also adopted satellite sensing technologies and high-definition cameras through cooperation with China Tower, which provides telecommunication tower construction, maintenance and ancillary facilities management. The efforts improve the monitoring of chemical enterprises and industry parks along the Yangtze River.
