Jiangsu launched a pilot zone for digital renminbi (RMB) use in Nantong City on May 15, with a plan to establish 100 such zones to promote digital RMB transactions across the province.

The digital currency has gained increasing acceptance in various scenarios, including supermarkets, tourist attractions, public transport, hospitals and utility bill payments.

Jia Tuo, deputy governor of the Jiangsu branch of the People's Bank of China, said that the bank supports all market players in exploring digital RMB applications in areas such as retail, public services, enterprise settlements and cross-border transactions, aiming to enrich the application scenarios of digital RMB and building a vibrant ecosystem for this digital form legal tender.
