Jiangsu has nearly 20,000 in-home care beds as part of its efforts to offer more help to the elderly.

The province’s Department of Civil Affairs has established an online training platform to assist in the effective use of these beds, which are often equipped with smart technologies to enhance the living quality.

In 2023, the province added 2,682 such care beds in residents’ homes, offered an age-friendly home renovation subsidy totaling over 21 million yuan, and provided a care service subsidy of over 6.48 million yuan.

Cities in Jiangsu have piloted new elderly-care service models, combining efforts at both community and property management levels. Tens of thousands of families now have access to professional products and services, such as care beds, overnight care and in-home care.

For instance, some neighborhoods in Nanjing have collaborated with property management companies to offer elderly care services. In this approach, caregivers are responsible for the wellbeing of aged residents with the assistance of property managers.

Suzhou has provided 100 new in-home care beds for the elderly, along with customized services tailored to individual needs. The city has expanded its 24-hour elderly-care service network, particularly focusing on nighttime hours when the elderly individuals are more vulnerable to illness and accidents.

Nantong added 603 new in-home care beds in 2023. Bedsides care allowances, disabled elderly residents can access more than 30 door-to-door services, greatly reducing family expenses.
