Nantong’s offshore wind farms have generated a total of 50.971 billion kilowatt hours of electricity since their opening, including a power generation of 6.481 billion kilowatt hours in the first four months this year, up 16.25% year-on-year, according to Nantong Maritime Safety Administration.
As the world's first intertidal wind farm project, construction started in June 2009 and was completed in 2021. The city is now home to 23 offshore wind farms, equipped with 1,573 turbines, and has a total installed capacity of 6.68 million kilowatts.
The power generation of 50.971 billion kilowatt hours is estimated to meet the electricity needs of approximately 22.3 million households a year. Compared with coal-fired power plants, the project is equivalent to reducing 58.89 million tonnes of carbon dioxide and 1.77 million tonnes of sulfur dioxide, making a huge contribution to Jiangsu's green development.
