Jiangsu highlights rural vitalization tasks in 'No. 1 document'

Jiangsu Province unveiled its "No. 1 document" for 2023, outlining tasks of comprehensively promoting rural vitalization this year.

The document issued by the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee highlighted the request to implement the strictest arable land protection system, the need to guarantee farmers' income and advance progress of rural and agricultural modernization, with an aim to build a strong agricultural province with Chinese characteristics and Jiangsu's unique features.

In strengthening the role of agricultural science and technology, Jiangsu will support the development of agricultural laboratories, scientists and innovation teams, and agricultural equipment industry while enhancing digital transformation of farming machine manufactures.

According to the document, Jiangsu will further improve farmers' income through various channels, ensure their stable employment, and also provide skills training and employment services.

To adapt to changing consumer needs, Jiangsu plans to upgrade the rural industrial chain, strengthen quality management and branding, promote eco-friendly agriculture, and accelerate the development of modern service industry for the countryside.

"Efforts will be made to fully leverage rural resources, and cultivate competitive industries in line with local rural conditions," said Yang Tianshui, deputy director of the Rural Work Leading Group Office under the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee.

The document also stressed the importance of improving rural living environment and basic public services in rural areas.

"Jiangsu will make more public resources available in rural areas, continuously improve integration of urban and rural public services, and narrow regional gaps," said Peng Yi, deputy director of the province's Development and Reform Commission.
