Decisive measures required to fight COVID-19 outbreak in Suzhou

Wu Zhenglong, secretary of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee, called for resolute efforts to control the COVID-19 outbreak in Suzhou City during a meeting on February 14.

Wu stressed the need to put people's life and health first, enhance awareness of risks, and adopt decisive measures quickly to win the battle against the resurgence. He also urged robust and comprehensive efforts in the province’s pandemic response.

Wu said the provincial and city authorities reacted promptly overnight after the outbreak and will try the best to curb the spread of the virus. He called for an expansion of the virus detection and control as well as smooth progress in every step, such as contact tracing, nucleic acid testing, quarantine and medical treatment.

Wu said efforts are also needed to ensure the livelihood commodities supply to people in neighborhoods placed under quarantine and also provide better mental health assistance. The COVID-19 response for imported goods and key populations need to be details-orientated, and the emergency response plan also needs to be improved to ensure people’s health, said Wu.

Xu Kunlin, governor of Jiangsu, required governmental departments to go all out to fight the pandemic, continuously improve the prevention and control measures, and create a good environment for economic and social development.
