Jiangsu Province started a pilot program of deep tillage, also known as subsoiling, combined with crops straw incorporation in Yizheng City on October 15.
The province is the first in China to launch a large-scale experiment amid efforts to improve soil management and ensure crop yields. The province will provide subsidies to carry out the program that involves a land area of 900,000 mu (60,000 hectares) in 15 counties, county-level cities and districts.
This program is also part of Jiangsu’s straw return efforts through mechanized ways. Such efforts can reduce the cost of using fertilizers, address drainage problems, increase soil nutrients and fertility, and contribute to the sustainable eco-farming practices.
