The China Alliance of Rare Diseases and the Rare Diseases Committee of Jiangsu Medical Association launched a collaboration network for the joint diagnosis and treatment of the lysosomal storage diseases (LSDs) on October 10.

Jiangsu has made efforts to promote the early diagnosis and treatment of rare diseases, strengthen coordination and partnership, regulate the treatment, and apply the whole process management.

LSDs are a group of inherited metabolic disorders that are caused for the most part by enzyme deficiencies within the lysosome resulting in accumulation of undegraded substrate. These disorders are progressive, and patients face the shortage of effective early diagnosis and treatment.

In 2019, the National Health Commission selected 324 hospitals to form a nationwide collaboration network. Jiangsu has 19 hospitals in the network including Nanjing Children's Hospital, Nanjing Gulou Hospital, and Jiangsu People's Hospital.
