Suzhou leads five trillion-yuan GDP cities across Jiangsu

The Jiangsu Provincial Bureau of Statistics announced the 2024 Gross Domestic Product (GDP) achievements for the province’s 13 cities with subordinate districts on its official website on February 7.

Jiangsu's GDP reached 13.7 trillion yuan in 2024, a 5.8% increase over the previous year. Suzhou was the only city in the province to achieve a GDP of over 2 trillion yuan, recording 2.672 trillion yuan. Nanjing, Wuxi, Nantong, and Changzhou all surpassed one trillion yuan in GDP, while Xuzhou followed closely with 953.71 billion yuan. Huai’an led the province in GDP growth rate at 7.1%.

Suzhou's economy steadily improved in 2024, making strides in industrial upgrade and innovation-driven development. Amid efforts to promote new industrialization at a faster pace, Suzhou saw a total output value of 4.7 trillion yuan from industrial enterprises above the designated size. Additionally, the city’s foreign trade reached a record high of 2.62 trillion yuan.

In terms of the growth rate, eight cities in the province outperformed the provincial average of 5.8%. Huai’an experienced rapid industrial production growth, with the added value of industrial enterprises above the designated size and industrial electricity consumption increasing by 9.4% and 21.3% respectively. Newly operational enterprises contributed 17.7% to the growth of added value. Furthermore, the city’s foreign trade increased by 11.9% year-on-year to 60.68 billion yuan, a new record.

Suqian and Xuzhou followed closely with growth rates of 6.9% and 6.4%, respectively. Suqian vigorously developed its high-tech industries and modern services while upgrading the economic structure. Building on its traditional industrial base, Xuzhou actively developed its high-end manufacturing and modern services.

Additionally, Nantong, Changzhou, Suzhou, Yangzhou, and Zhenjiang also exceeded the provincial average growth rate of 5.8%.
