Museums across Jiangsu Province have been engaging students with a variety of educational programs, gaining popularity for their innovative approach to learning.

At the Oriental Metropolitan Museum in Nanjing, volunteer and teacher Lin Mengxi was eager to showcase cooking utensils from the Six Dynasties period (222-589) to visiting students on March 9. By leveraging its extensive collection of relics, the museum has been offering courses that introduce children to traditional culture.

Zhang Siyao, another volunteer, said that the courses incorporate Nanjing's history and culture from that era, including celadon ware, clothes and tiles, and also offer fun workshops for the children.

A similar initiative can be found at the Nantong Museum. During the Lantern Festival, the museum held a performance of classic guqin pieces by master Wang Yongchang. The museum also invited volunteers to showcase folk arts and crafts recognized as intangible cultural heritage.

During the winter school holiday, the Changzhou Museum organized students to visit museums in Nanjing and Hangzhou, exploring traditional culture through relics.

Some museums offered immersive and interactive opportunities, such as playing roles in a show.

To mark Tree Planting Day on March 12, the Zhenjiang Museum launched a program teaching children about the day’s history and the importance of tree planting. It also encouraged the students to share their thoughts in discussion.

At the Yangzhou Museum, guide Zhu Yuan explained the origins, evolution and procedures of woodblock printing while showcasing the blooks and prints for students.

Yangzhou, the cradle of Chinese woodblock printing, is the only city in China that has preserved a full set of ancient woodblock printing techniques. The museum has a collection of more than 100,000 woodblocks, and it has been offering courses in primary and secondary schools since 2006.

Since 2021, the Xuzhou Museum has cooperated with local schools, offering 35 lessons on various subjects, such as Chinese bronze craftsmanship and ancient architecture.
