A space dedicated to showcasing time-honored crafts from Suzhou City opened at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai), currently the world’s largest exhibition complex, on May 26.
This represents the most extensive efforts to highlight various skillful crafts, signature creations, and well-known artisans of the city to reach a global audience.
The exhibition zone over an area of 1,200 square meters showcases more than 200 remarkable works by 36 masters, displayed in 12 categories including embroidery, jade carving, nut carving, furniture and bronze ware.
Opening the Suzhou-centered exhibition space at the NECC Shanghai is part of efforts to seize the strategic opportunity of the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta. It will also promote the market reputation of Made-in-Suzhou products and the city’s role as a hub of "Jiangnan Culture." The NECC Shanghai as a world-class platform is expected to help spread Suzhou’s culture and industries.
As the birthplace of Jiangnan culture, Suzhou is a famous historical and cultural city with a history of more than 2,500 years. The city boasts iconic classical gardens inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list and a wide range of crafts recognized as intangible cultural heritage items.
Suzhou will accelerate the development of its cultural industry, bringing to life the culture and heritage. It aims to turn the exhibition space as an important window to showcase the charm of Jiangnan culture, promote the city’s image and stimulate the sales of crafts.
