The 2020 Yangzhou International Economy, Trade and Tourism Festival held the opening ceremony at the Slender West Lake, a scenic lake and national park in the city, on April 18.

During the festival, Yangzhou reported the signing of agreements for 178 projects in advanced manufacturing, modern service and technology cooperation, involving a total investment of 187.83 billion yuan, a historical record.

The opening ceremony also marked the official recognition of Yangzhou as a UNESCO Network of Creative Cities in Gastronomy. Ernesto Ottone Ramírez, Assistant Director-General for Culture of UNESCO, and Qin Changwei, Secretary-General of the National Commission of China for UNESCO, delivered speeches through the video at the ceremony.

Yangzhou also joined hands with three other Chinese cities winning the UNESCO title – Chengdu, Shunde and Macao- to release the "Yangzhou Initiative for Chinese Cities Cooperation 2020".

The city also announced many policy incentives and measures to boost tourism, such as coupons for accommodation and parking.

As a centerpiece of the event, the Flowery March food festival will run from April 18 to May 18. In the one-month festival, Yangzhou will select restaurants that best represent its new status as a UNESCO Network of Creative Cities in Gastronomy, exhibit and sell the city’s specialty food recognized as intangible cultural heritage, and host other activities.
