As fishermen sailed boats to the designated area in Hongze Lake at 6 am on May 26, the much-awaited spring fishing season for a special fish, icefish or noodlefish, finally started.

Icefish is considered a kind of healthy food due to its high protein and low fat. To effectively protect and utilize the fish resources in the lake, the local fishery management office has issued fishing permits and set quota limits based on the actual needs of fishermen living in the lake area. Meanwhile, a supervision team will continue to step up inspections to crack down on illegal fishing practices, such as fishing beyond the quotas and fishing without permission so as to ensure a stable order in the spring fishing season.
