New books on the Nanjing Massacre were launched in Nanjing on December 6, ahead of the national memorial day for the victims of the massacre, which falls on December 13.
The new publications are categorized into three areas: research, public education, and international communication. This includes “The Diary of John Rabe - Enemy Planes over Nanking” published by the Jiangsu People's Publishing House, the most complete Chinese version of diaries written by Rabe about atrocities by Japanese invaders in Nanjing. Compared with the 1997 Chinese version of “The Diaries of John Rabe”, the new book includes news reports collected by Rabe about the massacre in various countries, accounts of his reports to the government after returning to Germany, and revision and notes on the names of people, places, and proper nouns.
In addition, the new edition of “The Judgment of International Military Tribunal for the Far East”, published by Shanghai Jiao Tong University Press, represents the latest achievement in the research of the tribunal’s historical materials, which is significant in revealing the legal interpretation of the massacre.
