Six classical gardens in Jiangsu Province are open free to the public starting from January 1.
The six popular destinations are Mochou Lake Park in Nanjing, Ximatai Ruins in Xuzhou, Qiaoyuan Garden in Taizhou, Changshu’s Fangta and Zengzhao parks, and Shuihui Park in Rugao.
About 96% of urban parks across Jiangsu have cancelled tickets since the province took the national lead to launch the program in 2006. Now the province’s cherished classical gardens also began to open for free visits.
The coastal province has a large number of classical gardens with unique cultural heritage but under different administrations. Jiangsu has completed a comprehensive study of 91 classic gardens to get a full picture of their operation, challenges in management and maintenance, financial status, and preparedness of local authorities to finally decide to open the six venues first.
