The Sheyang general aviation airport in Yancheng City has started night flying training, the first in Jiangsu Province to organize such training, according to  the Jiangsu Department of Transportation on August 3.

Six aircrafts took turns to conduct the training that lasted for two and a half hours in total amid efforts to test the airport's supportive capability and boost pilot’s night flight experience.

The airport covers 650 mu (43 hectares) in Wufen Village, Sheyang Economic Development Zone. It has a runway 800 meters long and 30 meters wide, an apron area sufficient for eight small fixed-wing aircrafts, and six helicopter pads. Equipped with night lighting systems, VHF communication system and imported Automated Weather Observing System, the A1-level general aviation airport can be used for services including emergency rescue, aerial mapping, flight training, sightseeing and tourism, and short-haul transportation.

Construction of the airport began in December 2016 and was completed in October 2017. Since obtaining the use permit on July 5, 2018, the airport has handled 50,000 flights totaling 10,000 flying hours, witnessed the training of 94 pilots, and became an important facility in the province.
