Signal transformation was completed on important parts of Xuzhou’s railway network on July 13, laying the foundation for the opening of the Jiabei Line by the end of the year.

In Maocun Town of Tongshan District, more than 300 workers raced against time to complete the works. Electrification professionals quickly removed the old contact network and installed a new one while signal software debugging done synchronously.

Xuzhou, China's second largest railway hub, is home to the meeting point of the Beijing-Shanghai Railway and Longhai Railway. Xuzhou North Station is therefore the second largest marshalling station in Asia and one of the eight highest-graded marshalling stations in China. It’s tasked with disassembly and marshalling of freight trains running on Beijing-Shanghai, Longhai, Jiabei and other rail lines, and is also responsible for the replacement and maintenance of locomotives.

According to Ge Zhen, the Party chief in the renovation project of Dashan Bridge (on the Jiabei Line) undertaken by China Railway 24th Bureau Group, four stations including Xuzhou North were temporarily suspended for the signal transformation, adding time pressure to the project team, which accomplished the mission at 5 pm and within the scheduled 4.5 hours.
