An academic forum on the digital transformation in Jiangsu Province was held on May 16, also an activity to mark the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day on May 17.

According to the forum, the number of gigabit broadband users in Jiangsu has exceeded 10 million, making it the first provincial-level region in China to reach the milestone. As of the end of 2022, Jiangsu had built and opened 187,000 5G base stations, ranking second in the country.

Data also showed that the number of telephone users in Jiangsu reached 117 million by the end of 2022, out of which 106 million were mobile phone users, and this represented a net increase of about 3.874 million users compared to the end of 2021, the second highest growth nationwide during the period.

In addition, the province boasted 36.9 million 5G users, accounting for 34.9% of all mobile phone users. The mobile Internet traffic in 2022 reached a total of 17 billion GB in 2022, up 16.4% year-on-year, with the average monthly traffic in December hitting 17.4 GB, 1.2 GB higher than the national average.
