The number of market entities in Kunshan City had reached 1.1 million by the end of August on the back of government efforts to improve business environment and boost market vitality. 

Kunshan became the first county-level city in China to have more than one million market entities about five months ago.  

Wang Xia, deputy director of Kunshan Administrative Approval Bureau, said efforts have been made to streamline the procedures and improve efficiency, such as allowing a new company to complete business license, taxation registration and bank account opening in one working day.  

As of the end of June, the city had cut fees totaling 4.978 million yuan for newly established enterprises. 

The bureau has also actively experimented with new services supported by technologies, such as the use of self-service system to easily complete the business registration. From July to the end of August, 9,613 market entities used the self-service terminals, saving them the trouble of visiting offices in-person and the paperwork burden.
