On the afternoon of May 26, a freight train loaded with 70 standard containers slowly pulled out of Hai’an logistic base of the Shanghai Railway Bureau. The train is expected to arrive in Hanoi, Vietnam in five days.

It is the first international freight train traveling from Jiangsu and the Yangtze Delta area to an ASEAN country.

The outbreak of coronavirus epidemic has dealt a blow to Jiangsu’s seaborne and airborne freight transportation, but CR Express service bucked the trend and rose in number. In the first four months, the departures and container numbers were both 30 percent higher than in the same period of last year.

This new international trade channel will be connecting the new sea passage under construction in Tongzhou Bay, Nantong city.

Shan Xiaoming, a member of the standing committee of the CPC Nantong Committee and deputy mayor, said, as the Hai’an hub is taking shape, the city is transforming from a regional intersection to a coastal transportation center in East China, linking Yangtze Delta and Bohai Economic Rim.
