Jiangsu held a meeting on September 19 in Nanjing to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of Jiangsu Provincial People's Congress.
Xin Changxing, secretary of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee and chairman of the Standing Committee of Jiangsu Provincial People's Congress, presided over the meeting and delivered a speech. Governor Xu Kunlin and Chairwoman of Jiangsu Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Zhang Yizhen, attended the event.
Xin emphasized the importance of maintaining the organic unity of Party leadership, the running of the country by the people and law-based governance. Jiangsu will uphold, improve and run the system of people's congresses to good effect, providing robust institutional support for advancing the province’s efforts in piloting the Chinese path to modernization.
Xin also highlighted the need to promote development through high-quality legislation, advance the implementation of the CPC Central Committee's decisions with effective supervision, and enhance scientific and democratic decision-making to better support the province's modernization efforts.
Jiangsu must ensure the principal status of the people, improve working mechanisms for drawing on public opinion and pooling the wisdom of the people, give full play to the role of deputies to people's congresses as bridges connecting the Party and the people, and ensure that the power granted by the people is always exercised in the interests of the people.
Xu said that the people's congress system is an important guarantee for the government to carry out its work legally, and in a standardized and efficient manner. The provincial government will actively accept the supervision of the people's congress and remain committed to meeting the people's expectations, and building a law-based, innovation-driven, and service-oriented government of integrity.
