The Jiangsu Health Commission has officially recognized the Nanjing Emergency Medical Center (NEMC) as a pre-hospital emergency medical rescue base at the provincial level, also the first of its kind in China.

In recent years, the NEMC has been improving the emergency rescue system through various measures, including better coordination and information communication with "110" and "119" emergency hotlines, emergency management departments and medical institutions. These efforts have led to a unified command and dispatch of ambulances, as well as rapid response to meet the needs. In 2019, Nanjing became one of the first national pilot cities for joint aeromedical rescue services, with a comprehensive rescue system and network taking shape. Currently, the network consists of 91 emergency service stations, one aeromedical rescue base, and 11 participating hospitals.

NEMC director Gao Fei said that the center played an important role in coping with major emergencies and its response capacity was well tested in 2022. In total, the center responded to the needs for ambulances and information reporting in 418 special events, dispatched 522 vehicles, and treated 814 people, contributing to the protection of people's lives and safety. The center also completed 11,832 ambulance trips related to nearly 500 flights, COVID-19 prevention and control, and other missions.
