Jiangsu governor Xu Kunlin presided over a meeting on pollution prevention and control this year on January 25, calling for early, practical and committed efforts to make constant progress in 2022.

The province went all out to combat the pollution in 2021, improved industrial restructuring and environmental governance system, and got the best environment quality since 2000. 

Xu stressed full, accurate and comprehensive implementation of the new development philosophy, the steady progress to peak carbon dioxide emissions and achieve carbon neutrality, and the need to make research breakthroughs and apply technologies for green development.

He called for efforts to optimize the energy structure, promote the green transformation of the transportation sector, and increase support for industries and companies specialized in environmental protection, energy efficiency and recycling.

Jiangsu is the only province in China to collaborate with the Ministry of Ecology and Environment for piloting a modern environmental governance system, and this cooperation provides unique opportunities for the province, said Xu. 

The province needs to accelerate the construction of environmental infrastructure, adopt the centralized management of hazardous chemicals, and make timely and effective response to environmental emergencies, thus creating a safe and stable social environment for the smooth development of the economy, according to Xu.
