Lou Qinjian, secretary of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee, delivered a speech at the fourth session of the 12th CPPCC Jiangsu Provincial Committee that opened in Nanjing on January 25.

The meeting heard the work report made by Huang Lixin, chairwoman of the CPPCC Jiangsu Provincial Committee, on behalf of its standing committee.

Lou said 2021 is a year of special importance as it marks the beginning of China’s 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025) and the 100th founding anniversary of the CPC. Giving full play to the core role of innovation in the modernization drive, efforts should be made to implement the new development paradigm, in which domestic and foreign markets reinforce each other, with the domestic market as the mainstay. Jiangsu will also speed up the development of the people-orientated modernization and improve people’s life and wellbeing.

Lou also emphasized that, in recent years, local CPPCC committees have centered on unity and democracy and provided more and more valuable proposals and suggestions, playing an important role in Jiangsu’s development.

In her report, Huang said the CPPCC Jiangsu Provincial Committee contributed to the COVID-19 prevention and control as well as economic and social development in last year. It also expanded the channels of consultation and started a new chapter in the CPPCC work. The committee will improve the modern capacity to better fulfill its functions and the performance of proposal-making and consensus-building.
